Marksheffel Road closed this weekend between Barnes Road and Zircon Drive

Marksheffel Road will close to all traffic between Barnes Road and Zircon Drive from Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. to Monday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. for major underground utility work. Travelers should plan for additional travel time and seek alternate routes, especially during the day on Monday. The signed detour route uses Peterson Road, which is less than one mile west of Marksheffel Road. Antelope Ridge Drive is not a recommended detour route. The west and north legs of the Barnes Road / Marksheffel Road intersection will remain open.

Colorado Springs City Council passes property tax reduction Tuesday

The Colorado Springs City Council voted unanimously to approve a 2024 property tax reduction for residents. By capping local rates, the City will provide approximately $6.2 million of property tax relief. The City’s share of property owner’s 2022 property tax bill payable in 2023 was 3.929 mills, which included a temporary mill levy credit of 0.35 mills, equating to approximately 7% of your property taxes. The 2023 property tax rate to be collected in 2024 includes a temporary mill levy credit of 0.70 mills for a total City mill levy rate of 3.579 which is approximately 6.7% of property taxes.

Colorado Springs Police Department’s K9 Riggs has Received a Donation of Body Armor

Colorado Springs Police Department’s K9 Riggs has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.  K9 Riggs’ vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Jovi”.

Colorado Springs Airport named one of Gazette's Best Workplaces for third consecutive year

The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) was named one of The Gazette’s Best Workplaces for 2023. This is the third consecutive year COS has been recognized with this award. The annual Best Workplaces process demonstrates the value of an organization’s team and emphasizes the impact effective leadership has on achieving success and employee engagement. Best Workplaces honorees are voted on by the employees via a survey that addresses topics like organization health, leadership, employee engagement and work-life balance. The process is designed to highlight the companies that are creating a strong and healthy workplace culture.

Several holiday activities happening Saturday in Colorado Springs

There are many ways to celebrate the holiday season this year in Colorado Springs, including a variety of City-sponsored events on Saturday, Dec. 9.  Events include the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum’s (CSPM) annual Festival of Lights Open House, Skate in the Park in Acacia Park, U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum Winter Celebration, the 40th annual Festival of Lights Parade and the Rock Ledge Ranch in Garden of the Gods Park Holiday Evening.

3rd Annual Holiday on the Hill

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will join forces with Shield616, Toys for Tots, and the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs to host its 3rd Annual Holiday on the Hill, on Sunday, December 10, 2023, from 3-6 p.m. at the Gold Hill Division, 955 W. Moreno Ave. This event is free and open to everyone in our community. Every kid will walk away with a new toy!
