Update Shooting Investigation MLK Bypass

UPDATE

The adult male who was transported to a hospital on January 20^th succumbed to his injuries later that same night.  On January 21, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the victim and identified him as 41-year-old Kristopher Wilson of Colorado Springs.  While the Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, this incident is being investigated as a homicide.  Detectives are continuing the investigation into this shooting.  Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.

Mr. Wilson’s death is the fourth homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2022.  The CSPD investigated zero homicides at this time last year.

Original Release

On January 20, 2022, at approximately 9:07 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a shooting on the MLK Bypass (Highway 24).

CSPD Officers responded to the area and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded to the scene and subsequently transported the male to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Based on the preliminary evidence and the nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crime Section responded to assume responsibility for the investigation. Detectives are actively working to develop information about the incident and identify those involved. No arrests have been made and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
