Update:
On Monday, May 23, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy of the deceased female victim. The female has been identified as 18-year-old Malaya Leary. Ms. Leary’s shooting death has been ruled a homicide. Ms. Leary’s death is the 21st homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2022. At this time last year, the CSPD investigated 17 homicides.

On May 21, 2022 at approximately 12:51 hours, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a shooting which occurred at 3040 Mallard Drive. The reporting party, called the Colorado Springs Police Department to report someone had been shot at 3040 Mallard Drive, the Mallard Meadows Apartments. Uniformed officers responded to investigate the reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a female in an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. Based on the preliminary evidence and nature of this incident, detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Departments Violent Crimes Section responded to assume responsibility for the investigation. During the investigation probable cause was found to make an arrest for 18-3-104 Manslaughter. The suspect was transported and booked into CJC.
