On October 6, 2020, at 8:41 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a shooting call for service in the 200 block of N. Wahsatch Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to the hospital for treatment of his serious, life-threatening injuries. Due to the nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.

On October 13, 2020, CSPD detectives were informed that the victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. Later that day, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased adult male. The male was identified as 57-year-old Todd Barnes of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. Further updates will be released as appropriate.

Mr. Barnes’ death is the 31st homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020.  The CSPD investigated 18 homicides at this time last year.
