On Saturday, February 27, 2021, around 10:55 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Communications Center was notified of an auto-pedestrian traffic crash at the intersection of South Nevada Avenue and East Colorado Avenue. Upon arrival, CSPD officers, as well as AMR and members from the Colorado Springs Fire Department, immediately began rendering aid to the female pedestrian. She was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Due to the nature of this incident, the CSPD’s Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
This is still an active investigation. Preliminary, it appears the pedestrian was attempting to cross East Colorado Avenue heading northbound at the intersection in the designated crosswalk, but against a red crosswalk light. She was subsequently struck by a red sedan that was traveling westbound through the intersection on a green light. No charges are anticipated.
The Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian as 55-year-old Donna Ribisi of Colorado Springs. Ms. Ribisi’s death is the fourth traffic fatality in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021.
