On March 4, 2022, around 2:11 A.M., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the area of North Union Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Drive regarding a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers located the driver of a motorcycle deceased on scene.
Initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle rider was westbound on Austin Bluffs just east of Union Boulevard traveling at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle rider was unable to complete a turn in the roadway and struck the north side sound wall on Austin Bluffs. Upon striking one of the support pillars for the sound wall, the motorcycle rider was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries.
Later that day, March 4, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s office completed the autopsy of the motorcyclist. He has been identified as 25-year-old Morgan Keith Lingenfelter.
While this is still an on-going investigation, preliminary information suggests Mr. Lingenfelter was the only one involved in this incident. It is currently being investigated if alcohol was a factor. Mr. Lingenfelter was also wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
This the fourth fatal crash of 2022. At this time last year, there were also four fatal crashes.
