On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 10:14 P.M., officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Falcon Division were dispatched to the intersection of Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive regarding a two-vehicle traffic crash. Initial information suggested that the vehicles involved were a motorcycle and Jeep Gladiator. Upon arrival, officers observed bystanders performing CPR on the male motorcycle driver. The female motorcycle rider was also located in the intersection. Both the male and female riders were treated on scene by members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR prior to being transported to local hospitals with serious life-threatening injuries. The driver of the motorcycle later succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. Due to the nature of the incident, the CSPD Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed control of the crash investigation.
Further investigation found that the Jeep Gladiator was traveling west on Briargate Parkway and attempted a left, southbound turn on Chapel Hills Drive. During the left turn, a motorcycle traveling east on Briargate Parkway entered the intersection and struck the Jeep Gladiator.
On Thursday May 5, 2022, the female passenger of the motorcycle succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash. On Monday May 9, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the female passenger. The female passenger has been identified 27-year-old Dezarae Mash-Hill. This is the 13th fatality as the result of a traffic crash this year. At this time last year there were 14 fatal traffic crashes.
