Beginning in July 2022, Detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department Motor Vehicle Theft unit identified a pattern where suspects were using a stolen Ford F150 to ram into local motorcycle dealerships to steal motorcycles and utility terrain vehicles. During the investigation of this pattern, a suspect was identified as Loren Allen, 22-years-old, of Colorado Springs, determined to be a wanted parolee in the State of Colorado for original charges involving weapons offenses. While Mr. Allen continued his crimes into the first weeks of August, he later stole another Ford F150. Mr. Allen began using that vehicle to forcibly enter local businesses to steal the floor-mounted ATM inside those businesses. Video surveillance clearly showed Mr. Allen armed with a handgun during these crimes.
On August 29, 2022, through collaboration with the Colorado State Parole Fugitive Apprehension Unit, detectives identified an address where Mr. Allen was likely residing. Simultaneously while detectives were going to check the address, patrol officers were responding to the same address regarding a juvenile male that had posted a social media video displaying a handgun with a large capacity drum magazine. It had been reported to the Colorado Springs Police Department that the juvenile male threatened students from Doherty High School (reference police blotter 30484).
Detectives and TEU personnel attempted to speak to the home's occupants, and Mr. Allen ran from the rear of the house; after a short foot chase Mr. Allen was placed into custody. During a search of the home, detectives located two handguns, one of which was a stolen .40 caliber handgun with a 50-round drum magazine matching the social media video. This handgun was determined to in the possession of Mr. Allen and to be the same handgun provided to the juvenile by Mr. Allen.
Mr. Allen and Iniki Kapu, 29-years-old from Colorado Springs have been arrested for the charges to include multiple felony burglary and weapons offenses. A third suspect Paul Gomez, 37-years-old, from Colorado Springs is currently wanted.
