Update

The Colorado Springs Police Department officer involved in the shooting on November 15, 2021, was Officer John Clay. Officer Clay has been employed with the Colorado Springs Police Department since January 2016 and is currently assigned to Stetson Hills Patrol, shift I.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting. This is an ongoing investigation, and all investigative updates will only be provided by the Sheriff's Office Public Information Office

On November 15, 2021, at approximately 4:07 p.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers were in the area of North Academy Boulevard and Half Turn Road following up on information to locate a male suspect who had multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants. They also obtained information that the suspect was possibly armed with a firearm.

Just before 5:00 p.m., CSPD officers located the suspect and upon making contact with him, he fled on foot. The suspect ran to the area of the Greentree Village Apartments. CSPD officers attempted to make contact with the suspect and during this encounter the suspect carjacked a vehicle. 

The suspect pointed a firearm at a CSPD officer and the officer fired at least one round at the suspect. The suspect was not struck by a round but was injured during the event. 

The suspect was transported to a local medical facility with a non-life-threatening injury. No other community members, or officers were injured in this incident. The one officer involved in this incident has been placed on administrative leave per CSPD’s policy.

The suspect has been identified as Brian Shawn Reynoso, DOB: 09/02/1983 (mugshot attached). The suspect has been booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:
Second Degree Kidnapping,
First Degree Assault, 
Aggravated Robbery, 
Felony Menacing, 
Possession of a Weapon by Previous Offender, 
Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, and Third Degree Assault.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting. This is an ongoing investigation and information will be released as appropriate. All updates, with the exception of naming the involved officers, will come from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Public Information Office.
