On Thursday, March 25, 2021, at approximately 11:02 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department was notified of a crash on Interstate 25 near the Bijou Street exit. When officers arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult male in the middle of the road, as well as another injured driver. Personnel from the Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR also responded to the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Due to the nature of this incident, the CSPD’s Major Crash Team assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Preliminary, the investigation revealed a Chrysler sedan was disabled in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25. An occupant of the vehicle exited the sedan to assess the situation. A Chevrolet Equinox SUV that was traveling northbound rear-ended the Chrysler, also striking the occupant who was outside of the vehicle. Speed and impairment are not believed to be a factors in this case on the part of the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox.
This is the 7th traffic related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were five traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs. The investigation into this incident is continuing.
