On February 17, 2022, at approximately 9:33 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a shooting inside a residence in the 4700 block of Live Oak Drive. CSPD Officers responded and located an adult female and an adult male both suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel responded and transported the male and female to a local hospital for treatment. The male succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital. The female suffered life-threatening injuries and was admitted for treatment. Detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crime Section Homicide/Assault Unit responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.
On Friday, February 18, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the male. The male was identified as 32-year-old Esteban Vasquez of Colorado Springs. Mr. Vasquez died of a gunshot wound and his manner of death was ruled a suicide.
On Saturday, February 20, 2022, the female succumbed to her injuries.
On Monday, February 22, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the female. The female was identified as 30-year-old Nicole Vasquez of Colorado Springs. Mrs. Vasquez died of a gunshot wound and her manner of death was ruled a homicide. Mrs. Vasquez’s death is the 10th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs in 2022. At this time in 2021, the Colorado Springs Police Department investigated 2 homicides.
