On Saturday, April 3, 2021, at approximately 1:34 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communications Center was notified of a shooting that occurred in the 4700 block of Barnes Road. When officers arrived on scene, they observed several individuals and vehicles leaving the area and a deceased adult male on the ground. Officers and responding medical personnel attempted life-saving measures on the victim but were unsuccessful in their attempts. Based on the preliminary evidence and nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD Violent Crimes Section responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
On Monday, April 5, 2021, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the male victim. The victim has been identified as 34-year-old John Jean. While the coroner’s office will make the official cause and manner determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide. Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.
Mr. Jean’s death is the sixth homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021. The CSPD investigated 17 homicides at this time last year.
