On November 2, 2020, at approximately 7:41 P.M., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a shooting call for service in the 3400 block of Montebello Drive West. When officers arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult male inside of a vehicle. Preliminarily it appears the male victim and a female passenger were driving southbound on Montebello Drive West when an unknown suspect opened fire at the vehicle, subsequently striking the male. The female passenger was not injured. Detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation.
On November 3, 2020, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased male. The male was identified as 31-year-old Daniel Garcia of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation. Further details will be released as appropriate.
Mr. Garcia’s death is the 33rd homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2020. The CSPD investigated 21 homicides at this time last year.
