On October 7, 2021, at approximately 7:26 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a stabbing that occurred in the 1500 block of South Nevada Avenue. When CSPD officers and medical personnel arrived on scene, they located an adult male who had been stabbed. The male was treated on scene but died as a result of his injuries. Several witnesses to the stabbing were interviewed. Based on the preliminary evidence and nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crime Section responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.
On October 8, 2021, the subject who stabbed Mr. Hawke was located and interviewed. No arrests have been made at this time. This continues to be an active investigation and updates will be released in the future as appropriate.
Also on October 8, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased male. The male was identified as 52-year-old Lance Hawke of Colorado Springs. Mr. Hawke’s death is the 30th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021. The CSPD investigated 32 homicides at this time last year.
