On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 2:17 a.m. officers responded to the Days Inn motel, 1780 Aeroplaza Drive, regarding a reported deceased male. Officers developed information which indicated the deceased male had been involved in a physical altercation that took place in the motel parking lot with an unknown black male shortly before the death occurred. Detectives from the Violent Crimes Homicide Unit responded to assume the investigation.
On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, The El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the deceased male, who has been identified as 32-year-old Terrance Hutchins, a resident of Colorado Springs. The cause and manner of death was listed as pending.
On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the autopsy report of Mr. Hutchins was received. Mr. Hutchins death was ruled to be a homicide.
This is the 7th homicide in the city of Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year, there were 19 homicides investigated. A photo of Mr. Hutchins has been provided by the family and is attached to this release.
