On Friday, June 16, 2023, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) developed probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for the person responsible for the homicide of Izak Jasso. The Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the suspect, with the help of CSPD’s Tactical Enforcement Unit and K-9 Unit. The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Marshaun F. Weathington, of Colorado Springs. He has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Aggravated Robbery. The Metro Division Investigations personnel contributed information that resulted in the arrest of Weathington. The suspect’s mugshot will be released on the CSPD’s official Twitter account, @CSPDPIO once it is available.

On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a shooting in the 00 block of Frost Lane. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male who was deceased. The Homicide Unit responded and continued the investigation. A suspect has not been arrested at this time. 

On Monday, June 12, 2023, The El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased male, identified as 16-year-old, Izak Jasso, of Colorado Springs. Izak was a student at Mitchell High School. While the Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death, the death is being investigated as a homicide.  

This is the 11th homicide in the City of Colorado Springs in 2023. At this time last year, there were 25 homicides investigated. A photo of Izak was provided by the family.
