Update to the 17th Traffic Fatality of 2023

On April 11, 2023, at 7:12 PM, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department, Sand Creek Division, were dispatched to the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Overton Street regarding a traffic crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. One person was transported from the scene to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  On April 12, 2023, the pedestrian transported from the scene succumbed to their injuries. On April 13, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased pedestrian. The pedestrian has been identified as a 9-year-old juvenile female. Due to the age of the juvenile pedestrian, the name will not be released. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing. Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be contributing factors in this investigation.  This is the 17^th fatal crash in Colorado Springs this year.  There were 9 fatal crashes this time last year.  There have been 64 fatal crashes in the last 365 days.
