On Saturday, March 25, 2023, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department Stetson Hills Division were dispatched to the area of Research Parkway and Channel Drive regarding a single-vehicle traffic crash involving a fatality. On Monday, March 27, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased driver. The deceased driver has been identified as Colorado Springs resident Michelle Thompson. She was 61 years old. This is the thirteenth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, Colorado Springs had six traffic fatalities. In the past 365 days, there have been 63 traffic deaths in Colorado Springs. Speed is considered a factor in this investigation. This was a single-vehicle, single-fatality traffic crash.

On 03/25/23 at 2205 hours, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department Stetson Hills division were dispatched to Research Parkway and Channel Drive regarding a single vehicle traffic crash. On arrival, officers located the vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was discovered to be the lone occupant of the vehicle and was deceased. Due to the nature of the crash, the MCT was notified, responded to the scene, and assumed the investigation.
