The City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Enterprise (SWENT), in cooperation with El Paso County, is improving storm drainage in the Park Vista South Neighborhood, with construction starting February 3, weather dependent.

The work, scheduled to last through late 2026, addresses public safety, drainage and flooding issues that have historically impacted the Templeton Gap Floodway. This alignment is located between the western intersection of Siferd Boulevard and Date Street to Hopeful Drive.

Once construction begins, the western intersection of Siferd Boulevard and Date Street will permanently close. The three legs of Siferd Boulevard and Date Street will be reconstructed into cul-de-sacs. The cul-de-sacs’ design still allows fire truck and emergency vehicle access and turn around capacity.

Travelers in this area should plan for additional travel time and seek alternate routes.

Permanent traffic detours include:

  • Hollow Road to Half Turn Road to get to Academy Boulevard
  • Austin Bluffs to the north part of Siferd Boulevard to Hopeful Drive

Once the cul-de-sacs are constructed, the remainder of the creek will then be stabilized up to Hopeful Drive. The Hopeful Drive bridge over the creek will be replaced in fall 2025. This requires approximately a nine-month full closure of Hopeful Drive. Detours will be in place at that time.

The City contracted Wildcat Construction to build the project. The anticipated cost of $11 million, including both design and construction, is funded through a combination of El Paso County’s American Rescue Plan Act funds and Stormwater Enterprise funds from the City of Colorado Springs.
