In celebration of National Neighbor Day (Sept. 28), Neighbor.com today unveiled the results of its fifth annual "Most Neighborly Cities in America" ranking, and Colorado Springs is ranked No. 1, up two spots from 2023. The ranking took into account charitable donations, volunteerism, crime rates, voter turnout and population growth.

2024's Overall Most Neighborly Cities in America

  1. Colorado Springs, Colo.
  2. Madison, Wis.
  3. Virginia Beach, Va.
  4. Des Moines, Iowa
  5. Provo, Utah
  6. Ogden, Utah
  7. Rochester, N.Y.
  8. Seattle, Wash.
  9. Richmond, Va.
  10. Minneapolis, Minn.

As part of its study, Neighbor surveyed 1,000 individuals on what they consider “neighborly.” The results showed that 60 percent of Americans rated living in a neighborly community as either "very high" or "high" priority when choosing where to live, emphasizing that people highly value close-knit connections. Also, nearly 65 percent of people feel they can rely on their neighbors for help when needed.

“I'm incredibly proud and honored that Colorado Springs has been ranked the most neighborly city in the United States,” said Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade. “Strong communities are built on the foundation of connectedness, where neighbors get to know, uplift, and support each other. One way we've promoted the spirit of neighborliness is our 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative, where we challenged residents to connect in meaningful ways— whether through lively block parties or casual hangouts. This initiative is about connecting and activating our community, all in the spirit of addressing loneliness. We are on a mission to build a city of great neighbors.”

“Congratulations to Colorado Springs and Mayor Yemi Mobolade on being named the most neighborly city in the country!” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis. “The rest of the country is finding out what Coloradans already know about the incredible and friendly community of Colorado Springs.”

Based in part on public feedback, the City of Colorado Springs has emphasized community activation as one of its five strategic priority areas and has championed neighborliness in 2024 through its 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative. More than 800 gatherings have been registered, to date, with the goal of helping to move people from isolation to community and support mental health.
